A Word from the Cultural Program Chair

The Ski Club Cultural program offers the opportunity to attend a variety of cultural events in the company of fellow club members and their guests. We see plays, shows, concerts, and sporting events; we tour museums, historic sites, and landmarks; we participate in guided walking tours; and we attend out-of-town productions, festivals, and significant events. We usually include an optional social function either before or after the activity so that participants can meet each other.

Click on the activity links to the left to see the events currently planned:

  • Theatre events include plays, musical theatre, concerts, and other staged productions.
  • Cultural Tours and Events include museum exhibits, art shows, tours of historic houses & gardens, wine festivals, and guided walking tours.
  • Festivals. These events have been transferred to Cultural Tours and Events.
  • Spectator events include athletic events such as the Gold Cup, Legg Mason Tennis Classic, Baseball and other non-participatory events.

To attend an event, send a check to the indicated volunteer event leader by the cancellation date made payable to SCWDC. After that date, contact the event leader to learn of any remaining tickets.

Volunteering
The Ski Club of Washington DC is a volunteer organization. We always have volunteer opportunities for members. In the Cultural Program, such volunteer opportunities include:

  • Event Leaders: They are responsible for the execution of the event. They sell the activity, collect the activity fees, submit deposits to the ski club, submit vouchers for payments to the vendors, and file a Financial Activity Report after the activity is completed. Where appropropriate, the distribute the tickets, and organize the pre or post activity social functions. They are also responsible for filing the financial paperwork after the completion of the event. Leaders generally receive complimentary admission to their event to cover expenses they may incur as a leader.
  • Committee Members: propose future cultural events six or more months into the future. They may also assist in the administration of the Cultural Program. They may also submit website copy, maintain patrons list, and other duties as required.

Additionally, members and guests can register their email addresses and telephone numbers so as to receive a monthly listing of events being offered and be notified of last-minute ticket availability for an event. To be added to the list send your name, telephone number, and e-mail address to culturalkt@verizon.net. Your e-mail address will not be used for any other purpose and will not be given to any other persons.
