Spring Biking
Our trips range from 20 to 40 miles over flat or moderately hilly terrain, spread over 3-5 hours, at an average speed of 9-12 miles per hour. All rides involve a lunch stop, either at a pub/restaurant, or as a picnic. Please bring plenty of water and sufficient snacks as well as appropriate clothing for the weather conditions, and arrive at the scheduled location at least 15 minutes before the ride time. Normally, rides will be cancelled if raining or if expected temperatures rise above 95 or fall below 50 degrees.

We also offer a combination "ride & eat" events: Sunday lunch and Wednesday dinner rides. Lunch rides will take place during the fall and winter months. Dinner rides will be held during the longer daylight hours of spring and summer.

Except for the "Shirlington-Lunch or Diner Rides", you must call ride leader before 8:30 AM on the day of the ride to confirm the ride’s status, or risk being disappointed.

Our objective is to provide a social setting for our bike rides, targeting the novice and intermediates rather than the “century” riders. If you consider yourself a class “C – B” cyclist, then these are for you. It is strongly recommended that all bikers read the information contained in the "Bike Tips" page.

Dine in Shirlington Ride

These Dinner rides replace the Sunday Lunch ones. All other aspects remain the same.

Date & Time: Wednesdays, 6:00 PM
Distance & Difficulty: 16 miles, some hills but easy
Leader: Ron Trueworthy
Location: Shirlington Library/Signature Theater, Shirlington, VA 22206

Cast away all that daily tension from work and commuting. Join us for a ride and then dinner on Wednesday evenings at one of the many restaurants in Shirlington Village. We meet at 6:00 PM at the brick plaza in front of The Shirlington Library & Signature Theater on Campbell Ave. to select a restaurant (free parking in garages and lots after 5:00 PM). Then, for those wanting to loosen their muscles a bit, you're encouraged to join fellow bikers on the local bike trails, following which, we'll dine at around 8:00 PM. If raining or icy, there'll be no ride and dinner will be at 6:00 PM.

Between 6 PM and 8 PM the bike ride will follow various trails in Arlington (the Arlington Loop):
First, on a portion of the W&OD Trail, then the Custis Trail, the Mount Vernon Trail, and the Four Mile Run Trail, with a rest stop at Starbuck's in Lyon Village, and a brief regrouping at Gravelly Point (cue sheet on PPTC website, and passed out at ride). The 3-4 miles on the Custis Trail are hilly; the rest of the ride is pretty flat. Leader rides a slow "C" pace; all levels welcome.
