A Word from the Tennis Co-Chair
Peggy Comerford
SCWDC offers a variety of Tennis Getaway trips between April and October.
In 2009, we visited Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a week in April, the Wintergreen Tennis Academy near Charlottesville, Virginia for a weekend in May, and the Pine Island Racquet Club near Duck, North Carolina, in October. In 2010, the Hilton Head and Wintergreen trips were conducted. For the 2011 program, we went to the Tops'l Beach and Tennis Resort, Destin, Florida; the Wintergreen Tennis Academy, near Charlottesville, VA; and Sea Colony, Bethany Beach, Delaware.
All of these trips include instruction and group drills. The Wintergreen trip offers the most instruction, 9 hours of instruction and play over Thursday to Sunday. All of the trips are geared towards those who already play tennis at the intermediate or advanced level. Trip size varies between 16-24.
For 2012, Peggy Comerford, Tennis co-chair, is asking for suggestions about future tennis trips. Trips of the past 15 years have included Tops'l Beach and Tennis Resort in Destin, FL; Wintergreen in Charlottesville, VA; the Island Club in Hilton Head, SC; Duck/Pine Island Racquet Club in NC; Club Med in Sandpiper; FL; Dennis Van Der Meer, Hilton Head, SC; Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Canada; and most recently, Sea Colony at Bethany Beach, DE. Prices have ranged from $250-$800 and some trips have included instruction and some haven't. Today's SCWDC tennis player: what interests you...in what price range, location, and time of year? Write Peggy at comerfordp@hotmail.com.
(When new trips are listed...)Consider these in your vacation plans, ask questions, join the trip that suits your budget and fitness level.
For SCWDC tennis-playing members: Tennis trip leaders? Are you interested in leading an overnight tennis trip? The criteria are as follows: (1) play tennis, ability level does not matter; (2) you must have successfully led an “admission fee” event like a tennis party and completed the financial report; (3) and been a prior participant on the tennis trip as a SCWDC member. If you want more information or would like to apply, please contact Peggy Comerford.
