ZUMBA AND 'EASTERN' SKI FEST 

What’s different this year?  A Fun Zumba Party.  Exercise with a great Latin rhythm.  Shake Your Booty – Wiggle Those Hips – Burn Baby Burn…those pesky calories!... Get Those Hips and Knees in Shape for Skiing.

In addition, we’ll introduce our nine Eastern trips and the SCWDC Ski School.  Hey skiers, the forecast for the 2013 winter is plenty of snow in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast!

The Evening’s Schedule:

6:00 – 7:30 PM - Happy Hour, with club-provided hors d’oevres at the Veranda Café on the second floor. Come visit with SCWDC’s Eastern Trip Leaders & Events and Ski School.  Leaders will be available to answer questions on our up¬coming ski season that includes trips to Canaan Valley, Timberline, Elk Mountain, Seven Springs, and Killington. Bonus: Raffle giveaways from Willi's, a local ski store and tickets to the new Warren Miller film showing on December 2.  Also, we'll hold a silent auction for a Skier's Edge machine that was donated to the club.

7:30 – 9:30 – We’ll host a Zumba Party with professional instructors. One web site says, “Zumba fitness is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party that's moving millions of people toward joy and and health. “ No special clothes or shoes required unless you want to have a little more freedom in your movement or just want to wear your cool athletic gear.

2013 Eastern Trips – here’s what you need to know:

(1) Brush up on your ski skills with an one-day, inexpensive trip to Ski Liberty or
Roundtop. Our Ski School provides ½ day instruction in skiing or boarding at any skill level, for teenagers 13 and over and adults, of any skill level including beginner. Advance reservation and payment is required (at least a week ahead of time is desirable) so that we schedule enough instructors to be there, given the various experience levels. All of the Ski School instructors are volunteers and have been for the life of the Ski School.  Read more about the Ski School by clicking this link:  Ski School. 

(2) Join one of the Thursday – Sunday trips to nearby resorts: Canaan Valley in January and Timberline in February, and get instruction every day from the SCWDC Ski School instructors in skiing or boarding for teenagers 13 and over and adults, at any ability level.  Advance reservation and payment is required so that we schedule enough instructors to be there.

(3) Join SCWDC’s third annual outing to Elk Mountain… Saturday and Sunday skiing.  No Ski School instruction, just the fun of going to one of nearest-to-DC fun mountains.  

(4) A five day, Sunday to Friday trip to Killington, one of the premier ski resorts of the East. This is a deal!  Check it out in the Eastern area of this web site.  

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PARKING & LOCATION OF HOTEL

Parking below the hotel (enter from Crystal Drive) or take Metro to Crystal City station and walk north from 18th St to 15th St.

HOW TO USE METRO THEN WALK TO CROWNE PLAZA: Take Metro to Crystal City station and walk north from 18th St to 15th St.  

Upon exiting the Metro, you have 2 choices:  

(1) Proceed from the top of the first set of escalators, walk straight ahead to the second set of escalators, you take up to street level. You now are at S. Bell and 18th Street, at the Metro Bus platform; either turn north (left) and walk the 'long' block along S. Bell to 15th St and cross; OR
Walk 1 block East/towards the airport to Crystal Drive (recommended) and then turn left and walk north 3 blocks along the sidewalk. You cross at 15th St and the Crowne Plaza is the first building.

(2) WHAT IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER?: at the top of the first set of escalators, walk 10 yards forward and turn right into the Crystal Underground, now walk in the tunnels following signs for "12th Street"; after checking several direction signs and walking through the multi-flowered tunnels, you will exit to street level by walking up a 50 yard ramp.  DUE TO THE SECURITY SYSTEM for where you are (75 yards from the hotel, next to the Jefferson Plaza office buildings), you need to find the exits to either 14th Road St (to the west) or to Crystal Drive (to the east)...either way, walk south about a block & 1/2 to the Crowne Plaza.
