SCWDC Tennis Program - WASHINGTON TENNIS - The Largest Social Tennis Program in Washington Metro Area

Overview: We play lots of social tennis, about 40 events a year, involving about 1,000 different players from the area. Non-members are ALWAYS welcome! Some events require advance reservations, some don't. We hold tennis events year-round, with prices from $5 for weekday evening tennis to $600 for resort trips. Tennis clubs are used for indoor Saturday night parties from September to June. In Spring, Summer and Fall, outdoor drop-in play is conducted on Tuesday's at Wakefield Park in Annandale, VA, on Wednesday's at Washington's Hains Point (East Potomac Park), and on Sunday afternoons at Wakefield Park. In the spring and fall, we conduct a variety of weekend trips to Hilton Head, Wintergreen and Duck. Finally, for members only, we run a Sunday Instructional Program that consists of twice-a-month instruction and doubles play at Farifax Racquet Club in Fairfax, VA.

There are no restrictions based on age or marital status, although our tennis play and attendance at parties are for adults 21 or older. Attendance at most events/trips is evenly balanced between men and women with most ages between 30-60.

There is a small guest fee that is added to the basic cost, and this depends on the event. If you participate regularly, it makes sense to join, you'll save money and be entitled to sign up immediately... members have priority to attend - non-members are wait-listed until 14 days before the event.

We hold about 30 indoor Saturday Night tennis parties per year. Most of these take place at Fairfax Racquet Club between 6:30pm-12pm, and cost $17 for members or $20 for a non-members, who make an advance reservation. This pays for two hours of arranged mixed and same sex doubles and up to one hour of free play. Players are grouped by ability from an Advanced Beginner who can make a basic serve to Expert players. Food, drink, and tennis balls are provided. A Saturday Night Deal! Play and eat for under $20! Free tennis lessons are sometimes provided when courts are available, but there is no advance schedule for lessons.

Events are conducted by volunteers who love tennis. They receive no payment for their services, other than attending for free the event they lead and spend hours to run. We enforce a personal conduct policy - polite, social behavior is expected and consumption of alcohol is limited to safe amounts. All phone calls for more information to volunteers named in these web pages should be made at convenient times, before 9:00PM.

Guidelines
Advance reservations using forms on this web site and payment by check are preferred. Advance checks are payable to "SCWDC" and mailed to the activity leader whose name is listed on this web site. Your advance reservation is not official until your payment is received and you are called by the leader that you are "in" the party/event. If an event is over-subscribed, the leader uses the date of receiving the payment to determine who is in the event.

If you would like to receive more information, you can view and download "Welcome to Ski Club Tennis" Guide." SCWDC Tennis Welcome Guide. It provides more information about SCWDC Tennis than space permits on web site.
